Click on: http://www.edutopia.org/pursuing-passions-after-school to learn about "Pursuing Passions After School," a 4-minute video that shows apprenticeship programs with the aid of mentors from community resources across the city of Chicago. This program that serves 25,000 students started as a summer arts program and now promotes visual, dance, literary, technological, sports and science programs across the city. The outcome is less truancy and course failues and greater self-esteem. What an interesting model to look at for discussion at future communication club meetings! New York City is certainly rich in cultural opportunities with which to develop communities of practice and communication at all age levels.
